May’s research foci are the neoliberal university, Southeast Asian and Asian American histories, higher education, critical refugee studies, intersectionality of identities, diversity, and social justice.
Bio:
May is a Ph.D. student with a B.A. in History and Political Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, an M.A. in History from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and an M.B.A from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She situates her research within the fields of critical race and ethnic studies, history, education studies, Hmong American studies and Asian American studies. She has spent more than ten years of her professional career in higher education on diversity issues: intersectional identities, underrepresented and first-generation populations, and student development and achievement. Her current research is on the implications of diversity within the context of the neoliberal university. Her advisor is Professor Ma Vang.
