Faculty Author Series with IHGG Chair, Dr. Dawson

The UC Merced Library is hosting a Faculty Author Series, featuring Associate Professor Kevin Dawson in November. Dr. Dawson's book, Undercurrents of Power: Aquatic Culture in the African Diaspora—a finalist for the Lapidus Center's 2019 Harriet Tubman Prize—explores the aquatic prowess and culture of West Africans, who took these skills with them into New World slavery, and used them to shape their lives in ways that are often overlooked.

On October 31, 2019, IHGG Graduate Shiloh Green will present a paper titled, "Housing Hegemony: Race, Citizenship, and ‘Neoliberal Diversity’ on the Irvine Ranch." Please join us for a preview of Shiloh's conference paper before it is shared at the American Studies Association's Annual Meeting the following week in Hawai'i.
