Bio:
Oscar Montero Hernandez is a Mexican Ph.D. Student in Interdisciplinary Humanities. He works under the guidance of Professor Yehuda Sharim. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Morelos (UAEM) in the State of Morelos, Mexico. His BA’s research project explored the way in which the artistic creative process influences the artist’s subjective formation. During his Master’s program in Interdisciplinary Studies at UAEM, he focused on the study of artistic practices as forms of resistance. He explored the ways in which the paintings of the Mexican Artist Nahum Zenil helped to legitimize homoerotism as part of the social and cultural practices in the Mexican society during the 1990s.
Derived from his studies on masculinity and marginalization in society, he became interested in the analysis of cultural practices, immigrant men, and the development of bicultural identities in new territory. He is also interested in exploring the ways in which visual tools can be integrated into the methodological approach used to understand the cultural adaptation among male immigrants.
