Bio:
Bethany L. Saint-Smith is a Ph.D. student in the Interdisciplinary Humanities, Critical Race and Ethnic Studies Program and serves the Chancellor's Fellowship for Inclusive Excellence. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from CSU Stanislaus in the Spring of 2023 with a B.A. in Social Sciences, emphases in Psychology, Communications, and Gender Studies, and a minor in Art History. She is distinguished as a First Generation/Honors/Tri-Alpha/McNair Scholar. She graduated with honors from Modesto College with AAs in Psychology, Social & Behavioral Sciences, and Administration of Justice. She is a recipient of the Science, Math & Engineering Award for Statistics at MJC, and awards for Speech & Debate Interpretive performances. Her research interests focus on Black women's experiences (self/others), liberation, social locations, identity, critical consciousness, Black feminist theory, and intersectional analyses. Her research has focused on colorism, reimaging a shift in marginality, representations of race, and the Black experiences of women in higher education in the U.S. She is a published poet, and her work is featured in the 2022 edition of Scribendi in her poem titled, "Church Dress" (https://scribendi.unm.edu/) and several poems in the 2023 issue of Stanislaus Connections (Connections May 23.pdf (stanislausconnections.org).
